One dead in officer Involved shooting In Belton

At the request of the Belton Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug & Crime is investigating an officer-involved shooting.

Around 9:30 pm on 12/15/22, in the 100 block of W. Hargis St., officers responded to an armed disturbance. Upon arrival, a white male armed with a handgun refused commands given by the officers. A taser was deployed; however, the subject continued to refuse commands, failing to drop the gun.

The subject raised the gun toward an officer. An officer fired his weapon, striking the subject. The subject was pronounced dead at the hospital not long after the shooting.

The subject is William F. Blakely, 25, Belton, MO, and the next of kin has been notified. No officers were injured.

All information at this point is preliminary, and this is an ongoing investigation. No further updates at this time.
