He also won the first state football title in Drexel's school history in 2021. Shipps explained Dean has gained the respect from many of his peers in the coaching world and has been asked several times to present at coaching clinics. He is fair to his players, and they respond well to him.
Coach Dean is a Drexel graduate with a lot of school pride and spirit. We asked Coach Dean what inspired him to become a coach. He replied with, "my little league coach Roger Batchelder and my high school coach Denis Bolton. Both of them were very influential, and I enjoyed having them as a male role model. I wanted to be able to make the same impact on kids as those two did on me." We then asked him what his biggest challenge is as a high school coach. Dean stated, "you just always want to do the best of your ability. However, how you do this changes from year to year. You never know what to expect and are thrown challenges.
You think it'll go one way then suddenly it goes a different way." Lastly, we asked him what his most memorable moment has been as a coach. Dean said, "winning a state championship was definitely memorable. However, each year has different reasons. I get to remember each of my teams for their different personalities." Congratulations Coach Dean!
