Charletta Swofford, age 65 of Lee’s Summit, Missouri went to Heaven on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Lee’s Summit Medical Center in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. She was born on November 23, 1957 to Melvin Henry and Opal Maxine Stout Swofford in Fresno, California.
Charletta, one of six children, grew up in Fresno, California and lived in Squaw Valley, California before moving to Lee’s Summit, Missouri in April of 2022. She went to Malaga Elementary and Konkel Jr. High in Malaga, California before graduating from Sanger High School in Sanger, California. Charletta was a caregiver for In Home Supportive Services in Squaw Valley. She was a member of the Lee’s Summit Baptist Temple in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
Charletta described herself as a “Hippie California Girl.” She loved animals and always had a pet of some kind throughout her life. Charletta enjoyed talking, laughing and spending time with people. She never knew a stranger.
Charletta is survived by four siblings, Melvin Swofford Jr. and wife Christine and Walter B. Swofford all of Sanger, California, Pauletta Gwenn Swofford of Freeman, Missouri and John Henry Swofford and wife Lynette of Salt Lake City, Utah; two nephews, Melvin Ray Swofford of Sanger, California and Matthew Lee Gladden and wife Stefanie of Freeman, Missouri; two nieces, Marion Marie Garnett and husband Jeremy of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and JoLynn Opal Marie Swofford of Salt Lake City, Utah; one great-niece; three great-nephews; two step-grandchildren, Shelby and Scotty; and her dogs, Taz, Killer and Petey. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Mark Steven Swofford; and her sister-in-law and best friend since junior high, Wanda Swofford.
