Leo was called to his eternal rest at his family homestead, surrounded by family, on Feb. 22, 2023 at age 96. Leo was born on Dec. 28, 1926, at the Rapp home in Bates County, MO to John and Frida (Bracher) Rapp. Leo was joined with Christ in baptism on Jan. 23, 1927 and reaffirmed his vows with confirmation on Apr. 6, 1941. The oldest of five children, Leo has always been a man of labor. Raised during the Great Depression years, Leo knew the benefits of hard work and being a good friend to your neighbors.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from March 2, 1951 until Feb. 6, 1953. Attaining the rank of Sergeant he earned 2 bronze stars, Korean Service Medal and Combat Infantry Badge. Returning from military service he courted and married his “best friend in life” Irene Evelyn Fleischer. They were united in marriage on May 8, 1955. Their marriage was blessed with the birth of three children. Leo and Irene celebrated 52 years together.
Leo spent his entire adult life engaging in the family farming operation first with his father, then with his brothers. He ended his career realizing his dream of continuing the family farming operation with his children and grandchildren.
He was a very devoted husband, father, and friend. He was active at Zion Lutheran Church, holding several offices through the years and always faithful in attendance. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He took great pride in his crop fields and loved to take an evening drive to admire his work. He was quite fond of those “red” tractors, having fully restored several. He also liked a good fish-fry and cherry pie with ice cream.
Leo’s greatest pride was his family. He delighted in the accomplishments of his children. His love for his grand and great grandchildren was exceptional. His presence in the family will be missed.
He is survived by his children: Cynthia (James) Dunn of Baudette, MN, Clayton (Tina) Rapp and Karen (Curtis) Scrivener of Rockville, MO. 6 grandchildren, Sarah (Wes) Leiber, of Appleton City, MO, Chris (Reba) Rapp, John, Michael and Rachel Scrivener of Rockville, MO and Nick (Tracy) Dunn of Baudette, MN. 6 precious great-grandchildren: Elliott and Erin Leiber, Zakary and Ralin Rapp and Spencer and Edison Dunn; brother, Floyd Rapp; sister, Yvonne McIntire; sisters-in-law, Vanita Rapp, Frieda Rapp and Wanda Fleischer; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Leo in death where his parents; his brothers, Eldo and James, brothers-in-law Jim McIntire, Roy Fleischer and Everett Fleischer; a grandson Zachary and his beloved wife, Irene. May God bless the memory of Leo Eldon Rapp.
